WWE Backlash PPV Results - Detailed Results
Match #1: WWE Tag Team Championship -Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas (c) vs. Eddie and Chavo Guerrero Team Angle comes to ringside with a portrait of Kurt Angle, keeping him there in spirit. The bell rings and the referee gets it straight with who will start as the legal men. Charlie Haas and Eddie Guerrero will start it off. Haas opens up with an arm hold, however Eddie counters with a headlock. Both men break up and circle each other, only for Eddie to connect another headlock, leading into a two count. The action continues back and forth, but no one looks to have the opening control. Eddie starts to make a tag to Chavo, but waits for the crowd to cheer him on first.
Chavo is in now against Charlie Haas. Not for long as Shelton Benjamin at 248 pounds is tagged in. The two lock up, Benjamin tries for the control but Chavo counters for a two count.
Eddie is tagged back in the match, to gain control over Shelton Benjamin. He doesn’t last long, an immediate tag to Chavo is issued. Chavo continues where Eddie left off with a submission hold. Shelton counters with a whip to the ropes, into a knee from Charlie Haas. Benjamin follows with a clothesline to the face, but Eddie gets involved to put Benjamin on the mat. Eddie is tagged back in.
Los Guerreros team up, Chavo uses a rope to choke Shelton Benjamin, Chavo is tagged back in and throws Benjamin to the outside. Eddie attacks Benjamin on the outside, while Eddie distracts the referee. Benjamin is rolled back in, only to get attacked by Chavo. Double team action is performed, with Eddie getting tagged back in.
Shelton finally gets a tag to Haas after suffering a big attack from Eddie Guerrero. Eddie and Haas go to the outside fighting, with Chavo and Benjamin going at it in the ring. Eddie is back in against the legal Shelton Benjamin, he is down for a two count. Benjamin gets a tag to put Charlie Haas back in.
Team Angle begins to dominate after double team tactics. Charlie Haas continues the attack on Eddie Guerrero with a rear shin lock. The crowd cheers Eddie to his feet, but Charlie continues the hold. Finally, Guerrero is able to counter with a supplex, but he cannot get to Chavo before getting taken down by Haas. Benjamin is tagged in to continue the attack on Eddie.
Eddie continues to try to get to Chavo for a tag, but Shelton Benjamin won’t let him near, as Shelton plants Guerrero with a huge powerslam, followed by a two count and then a submission hold. The crowd continues to stand behind Eddie, but it is not helping.
Haas is tagged back in and it is turning out to be a huge assault on Eddie, who has been in the ring for a tremendous amount of time. Eddie counters with a knee to Haas’ temple and finally a tag is made to Chavo. Chavo, who is extremely rested begins taking out both members of Team Angle. Chavo gets a supplex on Haas and a two count, but Benjamin is in to defend his partner.
Eddie goes off the top to equal out the attack. Eddie connects a series of supplexes on Charlie Haas, but Eddie is not the legal man. Chavo is able to crawl to Haas for a cover, but only gets two. Chavo shows life, Eddie goes off the top for a leap frog off the top ropes, Chavo covers Haas, it is broken up by Shelton Benjamin.
Team Angle work together to cover Chavo to retain the titles!

Roddy Piper’s music hits and he is on his way out to the ring with a basket of coconuts. Piper grabs the microphone and the crowd cheers him. Piper says he has a lovely bunch of coconuts, he then introduces Sean O’Haire out to ringside. Match #2: Singles Match -Sean O’Haire (w/ Roddy Piper) vs. Rikishi The match starts with Rikishi attacking O’Haire on the outside, he rolls him into the ring as the bell rings. Rikishi is ready to hurt Sean O’Haire. He has the opening control, after connecting with a huge slam. Piper is immediately on the apron, he distracts Rikishi to let O’Haire counter him.
O’Haire gives Rikishi a hard boot to the face to send him to the ground, Piper attacks him from the outside, while O’Haire distracts the referee. O’Haire continues his attack with a neckbreaker submission hold. The referee checks for submission.
The pace of the match has been slowed down by O’Haire. He brings Rikishi to his feet, attacking him with hard right hands. Rikishi begins to counter, O’Haire tries to connect a spin kick, but Rikishi continues his counter. Rikishi uses his weight to an advantage and goes to sit on the face of O’Haire. He does not connect, but Piper gets in the ring threatening to hit Rikishi in the face with a coconut.
Both men are down and Piper is back in, he gives the referee a coconut, Rikishi attacks Piper then smashes the coconut on him. O’Haire uses the distraction to his advantage and slams Rikishi down to get the three count and the win!

Backstage, Test forces himself on Torrie. He says that he knows she wants him but Torrie resists his advances. Torrie tries to get away but Tests grabs her and gives her a kiss. Torrie attempts to slap Test but he blocks it, so Torrie storms away. As she walks off, we see that Sable is hiding nearby and sees everything. Backstage, Sable approaches Stacy Keibler and says she hate to break the bad news to her but Torrie isn't her friend. She tells Stacy that just now she saw Torrie kiss Test. Stacy doesn't want to believe it but eventually does and walks away angrily.

Match #3: WWE World Tag Team Championship (Chief Morley Referring) -Rob Van Dam & Kane (c) vs. The Dudley Boyz All four men square off to each other in the ring, Chief Morley reviews the rules of the match and holds the World Tag Titles up. Bubba Ray Dudley begins the match with hard right hands to the face of Rob Van Dam. Bubba Ray has the early advantage, but not for long, with RVD pumping the crowd to his advantage. Bubba whips RVD into the ropes, but RVD counters with a spinning heel kick. Bubba counters with a huge clothesline on Van Dam, he tags D-Von into the match to assault Van Dam.
Kane is tagged in to defend for his titles. He starts to get control over D-Von, he tries to counter with right hands. Kane is not fazed much and puts D-Von down for a two count. Bubba gets tagged in as the legal man, he begins to get control over Kane.
D-Von works from the outside to help Bubba Ray get a two count. Kane continues to hold strong, with a big spinebuster and a near three count. RVD is tagged in, he continues the assault on Bubba Ray Dudley with hard kicks to the face. Bubba whips RVD into the ropes, but RVD counters with fast-flying tactics then using the ropes as a springboard to his advantage.
Bubba finally starts showing signs of control with a sidewalk slam. D-Von is tagged in and goes off the top rope onto Van Dam. Morley makes sure Kane does not enter the match. D-Von continues the control with a submission hold on RVD.
The crowd continues to stay behind Van Dam, but D-Von continues the control by tagging Bubba Ray back in. He connects with a submission hold of his own. RVD begins to counter with elbows, but Bubba slams him to the ground. Bubba tries to keep RVD away from Kane, but he counters with a spinning heel kick. Both men are down.
Tags are made to both Kane and D-Von. The action is fast moving again, with D-Von being dropped over the head of Kane. Kane is now single handly taking on both of the Dudley Boyz. He gets a two count on D-Von. Morley lets both Dudley Boyz remain in the ring. It does not matter, Kane keeps the control and tags Rob Van Dam back in.
RVD is in against both Dudley Boyz, he connects Rolling Thunder on Bubba Ray, but D-Von connects with a tremendous neckbreaker on RVD. Kane gets in to defend, Morley hits Kane with a low blow. He goes to the mat, Bubba can’t get the three count.
Morley then goes for a clothesline on RVD, but misses and connects on Bubba. D-Von gets extremely mad and goes after Morley. Lance Storm comes out from the back and takes out D-Von. RVD, and both Dudleyz are down. Morley tries to continue his attack, but is 3’D by the Dudleyz. Kane chokeslams Bubba Ray, RVD follows with a five star frogsplash. A new referee comes out to count to three with RVD covering Bubba!
Winner: RVD & Kane (retain titles)

Backstage, Stacy barges into the women's lockerroom and confronts Torrie Wilson about the rumors she's heard. Torrie says "you've heard?" and so Stacy asks her if it's true. Torrie says yes so Stacy exclaims "you kissed him?" to which Torrie says no. Stacy doesn't believe her and launches an attack. Some of the other ladies (Ivory, Molly, Jackie) in the lockerroom try to break it up but three (Nidia, Dawn Marie, Victoria) encourage Stacy to keep on beating Torrie up.

Match #4: WWE Women’s Championship -Jazz (w/Theodore Long) vs. Trish Stratus (c) Trish and Jazz stare each other down face to face. The bell rings and the match is off. The two women lockup, Trish slams Jazz to the ground and gets a two count for the opening control. Jazz counters after locking up with Stratus with a big knee. Trish counters and gets a two count. Jazz won’t give in, she connects with a submission hold, following with a slam to Trish. Jazz continues her assault with boots to Trish’s face. Trish counters by slamming Jazz to the mat for a cover. Jazz kicks out and begins to counter after a whip into the ropes. Jazz goes to remove the turnbuckle cover, trying to expose the metal under it. Jazz starts to box Stratus around the ring, but Trish counters with right hands and a whip into the corner. Jazz counters and sits on the top, Trish tries to get her off, but is slammed to the ground into a Boston Crab. The referee checks Trish for submission. Trish shows life quick and after a quick cover by Jazz connects her own Boston Crab then the STF.
Jazz tries to counter but Trish is digging deep. Trish connects with a huge kick and covers Jazz for a two count. Trish continues her attack, but Theodore long throws his shoe in the ring at Trish. Trish goes to confront Long, Jazz hooks Trish into a two count.
Out of no where, Jazz goes for the rope and a quick three count for the win! New champ!
Winner: Jazz (new champion)

Backstage, Shawn Michaels and Booker T get ready for their match. Booker T asks Shawn if he's ready and HBK says yes. So Booker T goes "what about him?" in reference to Kevin Nash who is sitting nearby. Nash says he'll be ready, you guys can do whatever you want...just leave Triple H for me.

Match #5 Singles Match -Big Show vs. Rey Mysterio The bell rings, but Mysterio is not in the ring, he draws Big Show out. Rey goes inside the ring. This upsets Big Show, he shows his frustration by kicking the ring stairs. Big Show gets in, Rey connects with a drop kick. Rey tries to follow up his attack, but Big Show giant handles him to the ground, the follows up with hard slaps. Rey goes to the outside, but not for long as Big Show palms Mysterio’s head to pull him into the ring. Big Show throws Rey down and follows up by throwing him into the corner. Big Show stands on the face of Rey, all 500 pounds of pressure. Big Show lifts Rey up high in the air and drops him, Mysterio lands on his feet and tries to counter, but is thrown out by Big Show. Rey Mysterio goes for a steel chair and connects off the skull of Big Show.
Rey gets in connecting a flying move off the top rope to get a two count.
Rey connects with 619’s, but Big Show counters with a huge chokeslam and a three count.
Winner: Big Show

After the Big Show/Mysterio match, EMTs come out to help Mysterio who appears to have injured his shoulder. As they strap him to the board, Big Show comes back, picks up the vulnerable Mysterio and slams him VIOLENTLY into the steel post. He leaves and Mysterio is wheeled away, complaining that he can't breathe. Backstage, Lilian Garica interviews Triple H, Chris Jericho and Ric Flair. Triple H admits that Kevin Nash is probably gunning for him, but he has the two best tag team partners in the world. Jericho speaks next, saying he will take out Shawn Michaels with the Walls of Jericho and Flair then acknowledges Booker T saying he is a 16-time World champion. Lilian starts to leave, but Triple H isn't finished. He basically says that tonight Nash will find out what it means to be against the Game.
Backstage, Stacy and Torrie are still fighting. Stacy ends up getting clocked in the head so Scott Steiner comes out and helps her to her feet. He starts to carry Stacy away when Test runs in and asks Steiner what he's doing with his girl. Steiner says Stacy wants to know what's going on with you and leaves. Test is angry.

Match #6: WWE Championship -Brock Lesnar (c) vs. John Cena The men exchange words with Lesnar removing the title from his waist. John Cena does not waste any time, as we begins his attack. Lesnar immediately counters with two backbreakers and a fall away supplex. He follows with yet another supplex on Cena. Lesnar definitely has the opening control. A cover is made by Lesnar for two, he connects Cena with a submission hold. Lesnar continues his attack by screaming at Cena and continuing to stomp away. Cena tries to counter, but Lesnar connects with a press slam. Cena is thrown to the outside, Lesnar later follows. Lesnar helps Cena to his feet, he throws him into the announce table. Lesnar grabs the WWE title and throws it in Cena’s face. Lesnar rolls Cena back into the ring.
Brock is going for physical damage, but Cena counters to get to the outside. Lesnar follows him as Cena was going for a steel chair. Cena counters by driving Lesnar into the steel ring steps. Cena looks to have a little bit of control, but tries to pump the crowd and holds up the title.
Lesnar is bleeding from his head, the wound that he suffered on SmackDown has been re-opened. Cena rolls Lesnar in and gets a near three count.
Cena stays on Brock and gets a series of two counts. There is a lot of blood on the face of Lesnar, he is appearing to weaken. Lesnar continues to go for covers. Brock Lesnar is being test as Cena throws him to the apron. Cena works hard on the head of Lesnar, this time by going off the top with Lesnar on the ring apron.
The fight moves to the outside, Cena slams Lesnar’s head on the announcers table. Lesnar is rolled back in and is pinned by Cena for two. Cena connects with a sleeper hold, the referee checks for submission.
Lesnar is showing life and counters with a huge maneuver, but Cena counters with a two count. Cena is showing signs of frustration. Lesnar counters this time with a spinebuster. Both men are down, the referee starts the double count out. Lesnar is to his feet first, but Cena counters big and nearly gets the win with a long two count. Cena applies a rear chin lock on Lesnar’s body. The referee continues to check for submission, the crowd starts to cheer Lesnar on.
Brock Lesnar looks to be fading, but refuses to tap out. Tazz and Michael Cole think that Lesnar will pass out before he taps out. Unbelievably, Lesnar gets to his feet and runs with Cena on his back, trying to break the hold. Lesnar finally gets Cena off his body, but both men are down. Brock is to his feet and connects with a series of clotheslines and a powerslam, followed by a two count.
Lesnar looks to have countered his way into control, he plants Cena into the mat and hooks his leg for a two count. Cena shows signs of a counter attack and connects a low blow with a two count. Cena follows with a neckbreaker, he covers Lesnar again for another two count.
Lesnar gets back up and throws Cena neck first into the ring post. Cena wraps chain around his wrist, but the referee interferes. Lesnar connects the F-5 and gets the pin to retain the title!
Winner: Brock Lesnar (retains title)

Match #7: Six Man Tag Team Match Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, & Booker T vs. HHH, Chris Jericho, & Ric Flair There is a meeting in the two corners of the ring between both teams. It looks as if Kevin Nash and Triple H will start the match off, but a tag is made to Jericho and Nash tags Shawn Michaels in. Both men just look to be feeling each other out, there is an exchange of control and two counts back and forth. Chris Jericho finally puts Michaels to the ground from a right hand and goes for the Walls of Jericho already. Michaels counters with his strength in his legs, Nash is tagged in. Nash hammers away at Jericho, throwing him to the outside. Nash goes ahead and takes Flair out and motions for Triple H to get in the ring.
Jericho gets back in and breaks that up from happening. Nash pushes Jericho around, nearly throwing him back to the outside. Jericho is met by a huge boot by Big Daddy. Booker T is tagged in.
Jericho looks to be drawing a counter, but Booker T counters himself getting a two count.
Y2J desperately needs a tag and finally makes his way to tagging in Triple H. Booker T and Triple H battle it out inside. Control is shifting between both H and Booker T with slaps and right hands. Ric Flair tries to get involved to Triple H’s defense, but Booker T doesn’t take it. Triple H connects a spinebuster then tags Flair in.
Booker T gets to Michaels, he is the legal man facing Flair. Shawn Michaels has taken control of the match, after taking out Jericho, Flair, and Triple H. HBK connects with Sweet Chin Music on Flair. Triple H connects with the Pedigree on him. Nash and Triple H are on the outside, Booker T and Jericho are on the apron, and Flair and HBK remain down inside the ring.
The Nature Boy finally makes the tag to Chris Jericho to face the Heart Break Kid. Michaels appears to be out and is mocked by Jericho and covered for a two count.
Triple H is tagged in to go at it with Michaels, but not for long with Flair being tagged in. Flair continues the assault but when he goes for the Figure Four leg lock, Michaels counters, but cannot get a tag and Jericho is tagged in to face his WrestleMania opponent, Shawn Michaels once again.
Jericho hooks an arm hold with Michaels, but he counters. Jericho counters again and starts to beat on HBK. Triple H is tagged in. He tries to drag HBK out but instead, uses the ring post to his advantage. Shawn Michaels is left in the corner of the other team to get beaten by all three.
Flair comes in to stomp away at Michaels. He appears to be working on the lower body of Michaels.
Michaels tries to counter but Flair attacks with back hand chops. Both men end up down, but Flair makes it to Triple H and Michaels makes it to Big Daddy Kevin Nash. Kevin Nash stomps on H as well as Jericho and Flair. Nash is slamming everything in sight! Nash throws Flair to the outside and takes out Jericho and H single handily.
Flair is back in and tries to back hand chop Nash, it does not face him. Booker T is in, but is thrown to the outside. Flair and Book are fighting on the outside, while Nash is in the ring against Jericho and H. Triple H goes for the Pedigree on Nash, but he counters out.
Booker T is back in the ring pounding Jericho. Jericho finally tries to counter, but can’t and ends up on the outside. Booker T fights Jericho on the outside. Nash and Triple H have made it to the ramp fighting. Booker T and Jericho are fighting outside the ring, while HBK is dominating Ric Flair inside.
Jericho connects a bulldog on Michaels to keep him from giving Flair Sweet Chin Music. Flair hooks the Figure Four, but HBK is not the legal man. Meanwhile, Nash gets ready to put H through a television monitor, but goes inside when he sees Michaels in trouble.
Triple H connects with a sledgehammer on Nash and covers him for the three count.
Winners: HHH, Chris Jericho, & Ric Flair

Michael Cole and Tazz report that Rey Mysterio has been taken to a local trauma center. Cole says that his vital signs are looking good and Tazz speculates that he could have some spinal damage. Cole says they will have an official update on Smackdown! this week.

Backstage, Terri interviews Rock and says that a lot of people feel as if Goldberg will beat him tonight. Rock basically re-iterates that he's beaten everyone before. He isn't afraid of anyone, certainly not Goldberg. Rock says when Goldberg hit him with the Spear it hurt, but he'll do everything to avoid that. But Rock wants to know how Goldberg felt when he got nailed with the chairshots. But for those that think Goldberg will win, you can wipe a Cockatoo's ass with what they think. Goldberg is next, you whisker biscuit bald-headed . He then leaves for his match.

Match #8: Main Event -Bill Goldberg vs. The Rock The match does not start immediately, The Rock is not very anxious to get into the ring with Goldberg. Finally he gets in to “Rocky” chants from the crowd. Goldberg looks to be all business, the crowd begins to chant “Goldberg”. The bell finally sounds and both men begin to circle each other. They lock up and we are off with Goldberg shoving Rock to the ground. Rock tells Goldberg that he is in trouble now and gets to his feet. Both men lock up again and Goldberg pushes Rock down again. Rock gets back to his feet and slaps Goldberg across the chest. Goldberg smiles and starts his attack on The Rock. Goldberg throws Rock to the outside and starts to shout at him. It appears as if Rock is trying to get counted out and he looks to be heading to the back. Just before Rock is counted out, he gets in the ring and takes Goldberg to the ground.
Rock continues his attacks with right hands, but Goldberg counters with a Rock Bottom! Goldberg prepares for a spear, as he waits for Rock to get up. He goes for it, but Rock moves and Goldberg goes head first into the steel ring post. Goldberg is on the outside, struggling. The Rock follows Goldberg outside and rolls him back into the ring.
Goldberg is grabbing his right shoulder, as Rock applies the Sharp Shooter. The referee checks for submission.
Goldberg inches his way, finally finding it to the ropes to break the hold. Rock connects with an illegal move and sets up for the Rock Bottom. Goldberg comes to his feet and spears Rock hard. Rock is down, but so is Goldberg after connecting hard on his right shoulder that Coach refers to as injured. Both men are down, but Rock appears to be showing more life.
He approaches Goldberg, but he counters by hitting him in the mouth. Goldberg slams Rock to the ground using his left shoulder and drives him into the mat and a two count. Goldberg whips Rock into the turnbuckle, but he counters.
Rock finally connects with a spinebuster that has taken Goldberg to the ground. Rock sets up once again for the Rock Bottom, he connects. Rock covers him, but only gets two. The Rock is to his feet to follow his attack with hard right hands, Goldberg counters with a powerless clothesline.
Rock counters this time with another spinebuster. It looks as if we are going to see the People’s Elbow, we do! Rock covers Goldberg for a two count, nearly capturing the win.
Goldberg finds the energy to bring Rock down and sets up for another spear. Rock does not appear to be getting up, but finally finds his way to his feet, only to get speared hard onto the mat. The crowd erupts, Goldberg calls for the jackhammer slam! He connects and gets the pinfall on The Rock!
