XPW Monday Nightmare TV Recap - 1/6/03
XPW Monday Nightmare Episode #18 from 1/6/03 on WGTW Channel 48 out of Burlington/Philadelphia ...... Phil S. (likeitis@hotmail.com)
Segment #1 - Kris Kloss opens the show and welcomes all the new fans watching from Pittsburgh on WBGN television. Kloss runs down the agenda for this week's show before heading to a commercial break.
Segment #2 - (From 12/21/02 Merry F'N Xmas)- Joey Matthews vs. Jonny Storm vs. The Zebra Kid vs. Jerry Lynn in a Four Corners Elimination Match for a title shot against XPW TV Champion Kaos. While everyone raves about Storm, Zebra, and Lynn, it is nice to see Matthews in XPW as well. Before the match even starts, Matthews is getting the crowd all riled up. He is an excellent cocky, arrogant heel. The match starts with Jonny Storm and Jerry Lynn. They go for the lock up but Storm sneaks behind and goes for the armbar. In the time it took me to type that, they executed about 4-5-6 other moves and counters. A fast pace to start off as I just watch because it is too fast for me to keep up. Until now as they both are back on their feet as Matthews just plays to the crowd in the corner. Storm goes over and slaps Matthews thus tagging him in. Matthews climbs in and knees Lynn in the midsection and begins to beat on him. He whips him into the ropes and knocks him off his feet with an elbow to the chest. Matthews goes to repeat this but Lynn reverses it. Matthews however bails out of the ring and struts on the outside before climbing back in and tagging Storm. Storm and Lynn exchange a few moves again leading to a Storm dropkick. Storm runs the ropes but Lynn catches him in a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. As Lynn runs the ropes, Zebra tags himself in and goes after Storm. He backs him into a corner and pounds on him as the crowd gets on Zebra. Zebra continues his assault on Storm in the corner. As the ref's back is turned, Matthews pokes Storm in the eyes. Zebra kicks Storm in the midsecton. Storm reverses a whip and tosses Zebra into the ropes, but Zebra does the Ric Flair and flips to the outside. Again, the action is far too fast for me and typing that made me miss a few more spots. Jerry Lynn is now in and so is Joey Matthews .,.... I apologize for missing so much in this match but it is very fast paced so far ... i highly recommend getting a tape so you can see it for yourself ..... Matthews beats on Lynn but Lynn starts to Hulk up. Joey continues to punch him and Lynn yells "come on muthaf&&%%" .... So Matthews bails and tags Zebra. Lynn takes out his aggression on Zebra Kid. Zebra slides out of a suplex and delivers a reverse neckbreaker. Zebra gives Lynn a mule kick and then a beautiful Samoan Drop. Zebra goes to the top and hits a very nice elbow drop. Looked even better on the slow motion replay. Storm is tagged in and he pulls up Lynn and hits a Michinoku Driver for a 2 count. Lynn fights back and gives Storm a belly to back suplex. Matthews tags in and goes after Storm. Matthews hits a Northern Lights Suplex for a 2 count. He works over Storm in the corner and whips him into the opposite corner following him in with a huge clothesline. The crowd chants "Zebra fu&$" to Zebra Kid as he is tagged in. Matthews hits a high elevation face buster and struts to a corner. Zebra Kid hits a unique combo Stunner/Neckbreaker. He then hits a Michinoku Driver and goes back to the top rope. Zebra hits a frog splash for a 2 count and tags back in Matthews. Matthews and Zebra toss Storm into the ropes but Storm ducks their clotheslines and hits a double DDT. Storm tags in Lynn, so Matthews bails again (Matthews is such a great heel) .... Lynn works on Zebra and delivers a powerbomb for a 2 count. Lynn goes to whip Zebra into the ropes but Zebra reverses it. Matthews on the outside, grabs Lynn's leg tripping him and pulls him outside. Zebra dives to the outside but Lynn moves causing Zebra to land on Matthews. Lynn goes to the top and dives to the outside hitting both Matthews and Zebra. Matthews takes Storm on the outside and tosses him into the crowd. Matthews then goes and helps Zebra beat on Lynn. Lynn fights back and tosses Matthews into, and over the guardrail. He then tosses Zebra over the guardrail and dives over himself onto them. Storm climbs up to the top of the arena while Zebra and Matthews beat on Lynn. Storm hits a moonsault from the top of the building, taking out Lynn, Matthews, and Zebra .... back in the ring Storm sprints to the top rope, but Zebra Kid is right behind him and leaps to the top and hits a German Suplex into a Facebuster for a 2 count. Matthews and Lynn battle outside while Zebra goes for a suplex inside. Storm counters into a leg scissors, and then into a DDT for the 3 count. Zebra Kid is eliminated. Matthews jumps in the ring and goes after Storm. Matthews tosses Storm to the outside as the crowd sends off Zebra kid with a few mocking chants. Matthews goes to the top rope but Lynn pulls him off the top and goes for the Cradle Piledriver. Matthews blocks it and hits a reverse DDT for the 2 count. Matthews hits a vicious clothesline on Lynn and goes for a neckbreaker, but Lynn blocks it and hits the Cradle Piledriver for the 3 count, eliminating Matthews. Storm is on the top rope and as Lynn turns around he hits a Tornado DDT for a 2 count. Storm pulls up Lynn and whips him into the corner and follows him in only to be met by a boot to the face. Lynn goes for a Tornado DDT but Storm cycles him around back to the turnbuckle. Storm hits a huracanrana but Lynn rolls through for a 2 count. Lynn flips Storm over the top rope but Storm lands on the apron. Lynn catches him on his back as Storm jumps back in the ring and hits a modified piledriver for a 2 count. Storm whips Lynn into the corner but Storm vaults him, lands on the top rope, jumps back onto Lynn's shoulders and hits a huracanrana for a 2 count. Storm then hits a powerbomb for a 2 count. Storm goes to the top but Lynn jumps up and hits a Sunset Flip pulling Storm from the top rope for a 2 count. Storm reverses a Cradle Piledriver attempt by Lynn into a Facebuster. Storm falls back first on top of Lynn and Referee John Finnegan makes a 3 count. But both mens' shoulders were down. Finnegan declares the match a double pinfall. Ring Announcer Kingdom James announces "the winner of the TV title shot is ... to be determined!" This was a great match. A lot of action, but not a spotfest by any means. Even though he was the second eliminated, Joey Matthews was a total star in this match in my opinion. He does all the little things that make a great heel. I hope XPW uses him full time now. He and Zebra Kid would even make a good team.
Segment #3 - (From 12/21/02 Merry F'N Xmas)- Chris Hamrick vs. Shark Boy. Hamrick offers to shake Shark Boy's hand. Thankfully Shark Boy doesn't. There is no hand shaking in wrestling!!! They lock up go through a few moves and counters as Referee Mike Kehner tries to keep up. Some more chain and counter wrestling that leads to another standup staredown. Someone holds up a "Gummy Is Evil" sign in the 2nd row as Shark Boy and Hamrick AGAIN match each other with counter after counter until Hamrick applies a Texas Cloverleaf in the center of the ring. Shark Boy somehow manages to reach the ropes forcing Hamrick to break the hold. Hamrick backs Shark Boy into the corner and nails him with a few stiff chops ... ugh ... my cable goes out at 12:34am as they decide to do their channel changes at that time, switching channel 48 from #48 on my cable to #18. #48 turns into the Sci-Fi Channel but #18 is still out!!!! ..... Couldn't they wait until the Benny Hill show was on at 1am!!! 12:36am ... still not back ..... 12:40am ... still nothing! This totally sucks!!! ... 12:45am and still nothing. WGTW has had this happen before a few times where for whatever reason, the channel just goes out and does not come back on for a long time. It happened during at least one ROH and Wildside show that i can recall. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!! ... sorry, just trying to keep busy .... 12:48am ... nothing! Look on the bright side, it could have happened during the Four Corners match, or next week, the last show before the big weekend! Wow, my TV even got tired of waiting for WGTW! It just turned itself off!
Anyway, it's almost 12:50am now ... I think I am going to give up on waiting for the channel to come back. I apologize for this report as it is incomplete, but hopefully you enjoy the matches I was able to see before my cable company went crazy. WGTW seems to be the only channel that is out! I apologize again as it was beyond my control. Please read on to the NOTES section for news on the XPW upcoming events.

In regards to XPW TV being on in Pittsburgh beginning 1/10/03, someone wanted me to pass along this bit of information ..... The channel for WBGN on AT&T Digital Cable is #21.
I just read that Christopher Daniels will be attending a WWE tryout camp in OVW with a chance to earn a spot in the WWE. IT IS ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!!!!!!!! THE best wrestler in the world today is finally getting a legit shot.
If anyone has a complete copy of this XPW TV show (1/6/03) I would be interested, since my cable company messed this one up. Also, the 12/9/02 show here was a repeat. If there was a show that week elsewhere that we never got here, I would also be interested in that. The 12/2 show had Douglas vs. Candido from Exit Sandman as the main event and the 12/16 show had Super Crazy vs. Psicosis from Exit Sandman. If there was a show in between those 2, I am interested in obtaining a copy.
