Rules For $1,000,000 Tough Enough Tell Same Story As Divas Search: WWE Overrides Any Fan Voting

Back on July 20th, we wrote an article confronting the rules WWE listed for their "Divas Search 2004". What was most revealing, was WWE attempting to convince the wrestling audience their vote would choose a diva - when the rules specifically stated otherwise.
OUR JULY 20 ARTICLE
WWE has finally posted the Official Rules for the $1,000,000 Tough Enough competition. And once again, the rules contradict what is being portrayed as "fans choose the winner".
Below are the rules. I emphasized a few points of notice in the rules. But most important, pay attention to the last paragraph of the rules. It basically says what the rules in the Divas Search say....If WWE doesn't like who the fans voted off, they can change it....If WWE wants someone as their winner, it overrides the fans' voting.
The divas search had no effect on the ratings or interest from fans outside of wrestling. Tough Enough will be even worse. Especially since the wrestling audience is primarily male.
Here are the rules:
WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT, INC. $1,000,000 TOUGH ENOUGH FAN VOTING INSTRUCTIONS
FANS CHOOSE THE WINNER: The winner of WWE’s $1,000,000 Tough Enough (the “Contest”) will be selected by WWE fans from among eight finalists! During and after each weekly Thursday evening SmackDown! television broadcast of the Contest (each Thursday broadcast airs between 8 pm and 10 am ET), beginning with the SmackDown! broadcast airing on Thursday, October 28, 2004 and ending with the SmackDown! broadcast airing on Thursday December 9, 2004,
WWE FANS WHO WATCHED THE SMACKDOWN! BROADCAST ARE ASKED TO CONSIDER EACH FINALIST’S PERFORMANCE IN THAT WEEK’S BROADCAST AND WHETHER OR NOT EACH FINALIST HAS THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES OF A WWE SUPERSTAR (1) ATHLETICISM; (2) PHYSICAL FITNESS; (3) PRESENCE; (4) CHARISMA; (5) PERSONALITY; AND (6) TALENT.
WWE FANS ARE THEN INVITED TO VOTE FOR THEIR FAVORITE $1,000,000 TOUGH ENOUGH FINALIST WHO THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE CONTINUE ON IN THE CONTEST AND WIN A WWE TALENT CONTRACT WORTH UP TO $1,000,000.
THE FINALIST WITH THE FEWEST FAN VOTES IN ANY GIVEN WEEK WILL BE ELIMINATED AND THE OTHER FINALISTS WILL MOVE ON TO COMPETE IN THE FOLLOWING WEEK’S CONTEST CHALLENGE.
WWE reserves the right in its sole and exclusive discretion to grant immunity from fan voting in any given week to finalists who compete and win such immunity. Finalists who win immunity in any given week cannot be eliminated from the Contest for that week.
WWE is under no obligation to offer immunity to finalists.
The winner will be announced on the SmackDown! broadcast to air on Thursday, December 16, 2004. HOW TO CAST A VOTE: In any given week of the Contest, fans may cast a vote for their favorite finalist by simply watching that week’s Thursday SmackDown! broadcast and visiting www.wwe.com. Only one vote per computer per week permitted.
Fans are reminded that standard internet connection fees will apply. Although WWE’s website is designed to handle large volumes of visits simultaneously, there may be times (especially right after the SmackDown! broadcast) when the website may not be able to handle every single visit due to sheer volume. Fans should be patient and try again.
When fans vote, they will receive a message confirming that their vote has been recorded.
WHEN TO VOTE: Voting will open on Thursday nights after finalists perform that week’s WWE Tough Enough Challenge during that evening’s SmackDown! broadcast (8 pm ET), and internet voting will continue through the weekend and end at 9 am (ET) on the very next Monday morning (the “Internet Voting Period”). If a fan attempts to cast their vote via the Internet outside of the Internet Voting Period, the vote will not count.
WWE, IN ITS SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE DISCRETION, RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE RULES, METHOD AND MANNER OF FAN VOTING AND WINNER SELECTION AT ANY TIME, FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, OR FOR NO REASON AT ALL.
